XGSPON Plans
1. What are M1’s new high speed plan offerings?
M1’s latest high-speed plans, offering up to 10Gbps, utilize the XGSPON fibre broadband standard. Plans that support speeds up to 2.5Gbps operate on the GPON fibre broadband standard. The XGSPON standard represents the most advanced technology available for residential homes.
2. How does XGSPON compare to GPON?
XGSPON offers faster speeds of up to 10Gbps compared to GPON's 2.5Gbps and is built to handle higher data traffic, making it more suitable for future demands.
3. What is XGSPON standard?
XGSPON (10 Gigabit Symmetric Passive Optical Network) is a next-generation fibre broadband technology that delivers symmetrical speeds of up to 10Gbps for both uploads and downloads.
Benefits of XGSPON include:
• Ultra-Fast Speeds: Delivers higher broadband speeds ideal for bandwidth-intensive applications.
• Increased Capacity: Supports more users and devices simultaneously
• Reduced Latency: Enhances response times for smoother online experiences.
4. What can I use XGSPON plans for?
Here are some ways XGSPON can enhance your digital experience at home:
• Seamlessly connect multiple users and devices for activities like remote learning, gaming, and streaming.
• Power smart home technology with ease.
• Connect IoT devices and appliances without lag.
• Support demanding gaming applications with minimal latency.
• Enable smooth, fast uploads and downloads of large files.
• Boost productivity for remote work, including cloud storage and server access.
5. How will the XGSPON connection be installed?
XGSPON connection is installed like the regular GPON connection which involves running Fibre optic cables to your premises and setting up an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). Our M1 technician will be coming down to your place to ensure proper installation and optimal performance.
6. How can I achieve XGSPON speeds? Why am I not able to achieve XGSPON speeds?
To get XGSPON speeds of up to 10Gbps, you'll need the following:
• M1’s XGSPON plan at 3Gbps or higher
• XGSPON-compatible ONT (Optical Network Terminal) issued M1
• Compatible router on Wifi 7 (802.11be) standard
• Devices (e.g. mobile phones and computers/laptops) capable of supporting XGSPON speeds. To make the most of a 10Gbps connection on a laptop or computer, you need a 10Gbps network adapter and a CAT6 cable. Speed will still be dependent on the end device's capacity and specifications.
Devices that are connected wirelessly are subject to several factors, including:
1. Signal Strength: The distance between the device and the router, as well as physical obstacles (like walls) that can weaken the signal.
2. Interference: Other electronic devices (such as microwaves and Bluetooth devices) can interfere with the Wifi signal.
3. Network Congestion: The number of devices connected to the same network can slow down the connection, especially during peak usage times.
4. Environmental Factors: Physical barriers, such as floors, mirrors and walls, can affect Wifi performance.
5. Device Compatibility: Devices must support the same WiFi standards (e.g., 802.11ac or 802.11ax) to achieve optimal performance.
A wired connection is better optimized to take full advantage of our XGSPON plans compared to a wireless connection.
7. How do I confirm if my laptop or computer is capable?
For Mac: Spotlight - Network Utility - Info Tab - select Ethernet on the drop down list - check Link Speed
For Windows: Device Manager - Network Adapter - Select the Adapter - Properties - Advanced - Speed and Duplex
8. Is my address ready for XGSPON plans?
You can check if your address is ready here
9. Are there data caps with XGSPON plans?
M1 Fibre Broadband plans offer unlimited data thus there is no cap.
10. What should I do if my XGSPON connection has issues?
Start by checking your equipment and connections, and try steps like restarting your devices. If the issue persists, contact us at 1627 and reach our Tech Support team. They will guide you through basic troubleshooting steps to help resolve the problem. If the issue remains unresolved, further advice or onsite support may be arranged.
11. What is Wifi 7 (router) and what are the advantages of it?
Wifi 7, also known as 802.11be, is the latest wireless standard that offers significantly faster speeds, improved capacity, and reduced latency for home networks. It supports multiple devices simultaneously without compromising performance, making it ideal for smart homes and streaming.
12. What is the typical speed for XGSPON plans?
Please refer here for the typical speed for XGSPON plans.
13. How can I sign up for M1 XGSPON plans?
You can sign up for M1 XGSPON plans at any of our M1 Shops or via our online shop here.
