Disney Plus, or Disney+, was launched on 23 February 2021, and offers a range of classic and modern Disney films and TV shows. With added content from Marvel, Star Wars, Nat Geo, and Pixar it's clear why there's so much hype around it.
That said, while Disney+ offers many options, you might want to consider other streaming services that offer their own original content too!
With many alternatives to choose from, you can always jump ship to another platform once you’re done with all the content on one, since they’re all month-to-month subscriptions.
Here's a list of what we think are the best 3 original TV shows and films on 5 platforms currently in the market besides Disney+, if you'd like to explore what other streaming services have to offer.
Our Top 3 Netflix Originals
Netflix is without a doubt one of the biggest players in streaming services. And thanks to a few great decisions they made a while back, we're able to enjoy their very own original content, of which there are some great masterpieces. These are our top 3 favourite Netflix originals:
1. Stranger Things
Set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, this Sci-Fi TV series revolves around a group of young friends who experience a number of supernatural events. With Season 4 rumoured to be released in 2022, it’s about time you started on the first 3 if you haven't already.
2. The Queen’s Gambit
The Queen’s Gambit is a coming-of-age drama based on the fictional life of Beth Harmon. An orphan who discovers a love for chess growing up, she journeys towards becoming the world’s best player while struggling with addiction.
3. The Witcher
Based on the book series of the same name, The Witcher is a fantasy drama series following the lives of sorceress Yennefer of Vengeburg, Geralt of Rivia - played by everyone’s favourite Superman Henry Cavill - and Cintran princess Ciri. Linked together by destiny through the law of surprise, it is one series you don't want to miss!

Our Top 3 Apple TV+ Originals
Apple TV joined the streaming services fray on 1 November 2019, and has since begun streaming quite a bit of its own content as well. The 3 originals we think stand out are:
1. Mythic Quest
When Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) create something, you know it’ll be gold. In the hilariously epic Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet (first season), video game design company owner Ian (Rob McElhenney) and staff go through hell and back to keep their video game, Mythic Quest, at the top of the charts. Word on the street is Season 2 will even feature Snoop Dogg!
2. Greyhound
Tom Hanks who also played a big role in composing the screenplay, is inexperienced Naval commander Captain Krause. Greyhound follows an allied convoy during WWII trying to escape the clutches of a vicious German underwater threat.
3. Defending Jacob
Crime, drama, mystery. Based on a book of the same name, Defending Jacob keeps viewers at the edge of their seats as the son of assistant DA Andy Barber (Chris Evans) is charged with murder.
