How this Restaurant Put Themselves on the Map Amid the Pandemic with Venuerific

It is no secret that the world of event management and of the F&B businesses suffered significant losses during the Covid-19 pandemic starting in early 2020. Many places had to shut down, from well-established restaurants to small businesses looking for a fresh start.

The pandemic shaped not only the way we lived but also the way we did business—events and conferences into virtual meetings; days in the office turned into long days at home. These definitely posed a challenge for F&B SMEs whose main job is to bring people together.

With the rest of the world going digital, it was crucial for businesses to follow suit and adopt digital solutions of their own. According to the Straits Times, at the height of the pandemic, 81% of restaurants said that they cannot survive beyond six months.

There was a need to bridge both a physical and figurative gap between people, and to survive, businesses had to take charge. Eat at My Kitchen, a restaurant in Dempsey launched at the beginning of the pandemic, has been changing since Day 1…

Eat at My Kitchen, a restaurant in Dempsey launched at the beginning of the pandemic, has been changing since Day 1…

Co-founded by Lynn Tan and her business partner, Janet in early 2020, Eat At My Kitchen is a private dining and event space launched right before the Circuit Breaker.

One can only imagine what they had to go through: a small business forced to shut down just as it started.

Lynn’s original vision for Eat At My Kitchen—to be a private dining space that did a few events here and there—had to take a back seat as they changed their business model to fit a pandemic-ridden world.

Shaped by the Circuit Breaker

At the beginning of the Circuit Breaker (a month after Eat At My Kitchen opened), Lynn and Janet did what every other F&B business did and opened for deliveries. However, they added their personalised “Eat At My Kitchen” flair: they sold gift boxes of cakes, canapés, and other fancy food.

Lynn admitted that their business lost almost half a year of growth because of Covid, and they are not alone. Even as of 2021, the F&B community is still one of the hardest-hit sectors in Singapore amidst the pandemic.

Eat At My Kitchen rose to the occasion and adapted as best as they could, but not without a little help.

How Eat At My Kitchen Adopted Digital Solutions like Venuerific

When asked about other changes Eat At My Kitchen implemented during the Circuit Breaker, founder Lynn said that they opted to “grind it out”: re-run their numbers, identify their customers, and adjust to any changes in their plans.

As COVID restrictions eased, Eat At My Kitchen joined as one of the venues on Venuerific, the largest event venue marketplace in Southeast Asia, to reach more customers. And they did.

With Venuerific, Eat At My Kitchen reintroduced themselves to Singapore. They let people know that they were available for private dining and intimate gatherings but adopted new modes of events such as birthday dinners that could be livestreamed for more people to celebrate together no matter virtually or physically.

Through Venuerific, Eat At My Kitchen effectively managed their event leads through Venuerific’s venue management system and increased their productivity. This system has been recognised as one of the pre-approved vendors for Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG) for 70-80% financial support from the Singapore government.

Moreover, through Venuerific’s review system, Eat At My Kitchen also knew what worked about their venue: people raved over their good food, interior design, and flexibility.

They took charge— reached their audience, connected with them, and kept all lines open to collaboration. Digital solutions did not just bridge the gap between Eat At My Kitchen and their audience. It also bridged the business with a reliable
