M1’s 5G is built based on a 5G non-standalone (NSA) network using 2100MHz, and rolled out on trial basis
from 25 Sep 2020 till 24 Mar 2021. Concurrently, we are also deploying the 5G standalone (SA) network
progressively.
Customers who wish to enjoy M1’s 5G will need to sign-up to one of the 5G Booster. In addition, Customers
must have a 5G NSA device and must be within M1’s 5G coverage areas.
What is the difference between non-standalone (NSA) 5G and standalone (SA) 5G?
The non-standalone 5G and standalone 5G are 2 paths which are vastly adopted by network providers around the
world,
including M1. The non-standalone mode of deploying 5G focuses on enhancing existing mobile broadband to
provide higher
data-bandwidth and reliable connectivity.
M1 is also working on the standalone network deployment in parallel, which is independent of the 4G network.
Standalone
5G will unlock 5G’s capabilities further, enabling not only increased mobile data capacity and bandwidth,
but also
ultra-responsive, ultra-low-latency services, network slicing for high quality of service and the ability to
connect
massive number of devices.
Why is M1 launching non-standalone (NSA) 5G first?
M1 wants our customers to enjoy 5G benefits as more 5G devices are made available in Singapore. Coverage for
standalone
(SA) mode will take time as it is a new technology, so we are launching NSA first for our customers to start
enjoying
even faster mobile services.
How do I enjoy 5G on M1?
Customers must have a 5G NSA device, must be within M1’s 5G coverage areas and subscribe to a “5G Booster
Pack”.
Note: Customers must update their 5G NSA device software and turn on 5G on their device. Please refer to
Device FAQs.
