Cessation of Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS)

 

In line with our efforts to bring you better products and services, we will be discontinuing Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) and related services from 16 November 2021.

  1. Which services are affected?

  2. Do I need to do anything before 16 November 2021?
    Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS)
    You will receive a software update, simply update your phone to the latest software. If you do not receive any software update by 16 November 2021, please refer to the following instructions to change your settings:

    If you are using an Android/Huawei device:

    1. Tap on Settings.
    2. Tap on Connections / Wi-Fi & Network.
    3. Tap on Mobile networks / SIM & Network.
    4. Select SIM 1 or SIM 2 (only for dual-SIM devices)
    5. Tap on Access Point Names.
    6. Choose an APN that contains “miworld”.
    7. Open the Menu (the 3 dots on the top right hand of your device).
    8. Tap on Delete APN.

    If you are using an iPhone, you may not be able to access your APN settings. You will receive a software update. Please update your software.


    MMS Saver / MMS Super Saver
    You can unsubscribe now if you no longer require the service. Otherwise, your subscription will automatically cease from 16 November 2021. Charges will be pro-rated.


  3. What happens if I don’t remove the “miworld” APN?
    If APN is not removed, data will be consumed when you try to send an MMS even though the MMS will not be sent out. If you are roaming, respective data roaming charges of that country will apply.

  4. What did I use these services for?
    Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS)
    Send a text with an attached file (e.g. picture, video, or emoji

    MMS Saver / MMS Super Saver
    Additional MMS bundle on your monthly mobile plan at $2.14/mth for MMS Saver and $5.35/mth for MMS Super Saver

  5. Why are these services ending?
    Cessation of these services is a planned initiative across the telco industry in Singapore.

  6. How will this cessation affect me?
    Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS)
    You will no longer be able to send/ receive multimedia messages through your standard SMS/Message application

    MMS Saver / MMS Super Saver
    You will no longer receive additional MMS allowances on your monthly mobile plan

  7. Will these services be replaced / Are there any alternatives?
    We will not be replacing these services, as they are outdated. You can use the following alternatives:

    Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS)/ MMS Saver / MMS Super Saver
    You may download alternatives such as Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, iMessage, or Google Message to send photos, videos, and emojis. Do note that sending messages via these apps will use up your data if you’re not connected to Wi-Fi.

    Whatsapp – App Store (IOS) / Play Store (Android)
    Facebook Messenger – App Store (IOS) / Play Store (Android)
    Telegram – App Store (IOS) / Play Store (Android) / AppGallery (Huawei)
    iMessage – preinstalled with IOS
    Google Message – Play Store

  8. Will it cost more to use data?
    With our large data bundle plans, you can actually save more as each MMS costs 32.1cents (30kb or below) or 85.6cents (above 30kb).
