  9. How secure is SecureStorage?

All the files are encrypted using 256-bit AES algorithm, a symmetric-key encryption standard adopted widely by the Security Industry. Your files will be encrypted in memory in your computer before it is sent to the SecureStorage Server. This means that your files are encrypted before it leaves your computer and sent to SecureStorage via the Internet. In addition, Transport Layer Security (TLS) or Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is used to secure the transport of your data. So your data is protected by two layers of encryption from the wire in your computer all the way to our SecureStorage Server.

  10. How is the encryption key managed by SecureStorage?

All the files stored in SecureStorage are encrypted using 256-bit AES algorithm, a symmetric-key encryption standard adopted widely by the Security Industry. In addition, SecureStorage uses an advanced encryption-implementation that has been inspected and approved by a renowned military institution.

To maintain confidentiality of your data, the entire encryption process is done locally in your computer before it is sent to the SecureStorage server. As such, the Encryption-Key, that is the key used to perform the encryption, never leaves your computer. Being randomly generated in your computer, the Session-Key used to encrypt every single file is unique.

You will be asked to define your Encryption-Password when you run the SecureStorage Client for the first time. This password is only to be known by you and should not be shared with anyone else. Please remember your Encryption-Password as this password will be required to decrypt your files. If you forget the password, you will not be able to access your files. To prevent this, the SecureStorage Client will request you to backup your Encryption-Password to a file and keep this file in a secure place so that you can use it if you forget your password.

SecureStorage leverages on data centre grade bandwidth to achieve high broadband speeds. This is to ensure that SecureStorage users are able to upload and download files to SecureStorage quickly.
